Small Blessings

Ten Things of Thankful

Some weeks, it's the little things that matter the most.

The kittens went to the shelter for their first treatments (whether they need it or not, all cats/kittens get a first treatment for worms, ear mites, fleas, and coccidia, as well as get 4-in-1 shots to prevent disease, and get tested for FLV and FIV).  Their test was negative, a great relief, and they didn't do too much squirming as they were treated.  It might not matter much in the scheme of things that two stray bottle-fed kittens are healthy and will get adopted and grow to be someone's special pet, but i am thankful for it.

When you've had a particularly stressful day at work (Sweetie broke a flower pot and almost destroyed a vacuum cleaner), being able to come home and put your feet up in a room with a small air conditioner is a small thing and a delight, and i am thankful for it.

After being out in the heat, the fact that almost every one of my clients has a cold water dispenser in the door of their fridge, as well as ice, is a small thing, and i am thankful for it.

When you are the only person in Bible study who drinks decaf (after my one cup of regular, it's all i am allowed), it's a small thing that you get the pot to yourself and can bring the rest home for later in your big travel mug, and i am thankful for it.

Getting to sit for an hour and do the puzzles in the paper is a small thing, and i am thankful every time i have the chance to do it.

Having  back scratchers in multiple places in the house so you can get one when you need it most is a small thing, and i am thankful for them.  (The fact that everyone who uses them puts them right back is a bonus!)

Teeny Tiny Avocados from Trader Joe's are small things, and i am thankful they are small enough and inexpensive enough that i can have one every day.

Having two clothes racks so i can dry clothes indoors without using the electricity to run a dryer (or heating up the house any worse) is a small thing, and i am thankful for them as i no longer have to hang items over the stair rails.

Being given a few minutes to sit quietly and hear myself think is a small thing, and i'm thankful for those times even if i have to sneak out to the car to get them.

My favorite pillow is a small thing, just the right size and very squishy the way i like it, and i am thankful to have it.

If you have small things for which you are thankful, or big things, even if it's not ten of them, make a list and link up with Ten Things of Thankful.  We will all be glad to rejoice with you in your blessings.

  2. It is the small things that are most important. Wonderful list of thankfuls. I am glad the kittens are healthy and tested negative for FELV/FIV. We have 2 clothesline ropes strung across the basement so I can dry inside too. I always seem to break the wooden racks. Have a nice weekend!

  5. I do not have a list of ten, but many days I find one or two that I dwell on when I feel stressed or frustrated. I have it so good, and I must kick myself if I complain.

  6. This post is a wonderful example of how the little things we encounter make such a big difference in how we feel about life, I was smiling all the way through, beginning with the kittens that will end up with lives where they are loved and spoiled and will warm someone's heart in the process!

A nicely air-conditioned room is indeed a blessing after a hot, stressful day at work, and having ice/water accessible is awesome. I am spoiled by the covenience of always having ice made and waiting in the freezer for me. I remember my mom rationing out the ice cubes at home!

How kind of your Bible Study friends to make sure decaf coffee is available to you, and you get to take the rest home. We always take home "to go" tea refills for our mugs when we are out.

I enjoy my time to do crosswords, Sudoku, Words With Friends, and Yahtzee each day, helps to keep the old brain sharp and take your mind off other things. I am glad you make time for yourself now and then too!

Papa Bear has backscratchers in each room too, I find them mighty handy for retrieving small objects that have been carried across the floor by playful felines. :-)

I'm with you enjoying an avocado a day, so delicious and good for you!

I love that you dry your clothes on a rack rather than running the dryer, that's great energy and money conservation. I dry mine partway, then hang them to air dry, much easier on the fabrics too!

I had to laugh at the visual of you sitting in the car just to have a few moments of quiet for yourself. Being home now I have come to treasure quiet so much that sometimes I get irritated by Papa Bear's running tv and go sit outside for a little while to enjoy the quiet! We just got him a headset for watching "noisy things" that I am not wanting to hear. :-)

Just the right pillow makes all the difference for a good sleep, mine is soft, made of duck down and squishy/small too.

Thank you for taking time to remind us that we all have these little blessings that make life so much sweeter, God most assuredly loves us!

  7. Chock full of good stuff Meems. Remember to not mix your avocado into guacamole with your back scratcher, unless absolutely necessary.

Also? Interesting that Josef Strauss died and Alex Trebec was born on the same calendar day.

  12. I love your list of "small things."
The cold water dispensers are such a plus after your hard work.
I like those teeny tiny avocados too, especially since the stone inside is also tiny.
Being able to have a place to enjoy some quiet moments is such a blessing.
Having your very own pillow that swishes just so, in the way you like it is certainly worth mentioning.
